Witchfire is a dark fantasy first-person shooter. It’s the second game developed by The Astronauts, known for The Vanishing of Ethan Carter.
MechanicsThe game is an FPS with RPG elements, emphasizing combat, firearms and spellcasting. Enemy encounters are very fast-paced, both the player and the foes are very mobile, while the protagonist can sidestep to avoid enemy fire.
Witchfire features a wide selection of weapons, each coming with unique upgrades which are rather challenging to unlock. There’s also an extensive elemental magic system. One of the four elements, water, lets us freeze enemies. Earth spells, in turn, can decompose enemy bodies. Acquired spells can be upgraded and developed further.
Magic also interacts with the environment and conventional weaponry. We can, for example, electrocute enemies standing in water or shatter frozen monsters.
Our only save haven in Witchfire is our hideout. We can store an infinite amount of items there, but during expeditions, our inventory’s limited. We retain some of our loot and progress after each death.
The game was designed to be challenging and doesn’t feature multiple difficulty levels.
Game modes
Witchfire only supports singleplayer.
Technical aspects
The game runs on the Unreal Engine 4 and features appealing visuals.
