@ SOKHA KIM, Yes… fuxx Windows Updates and fuxx Windows 10 for playing PC Games that are Windows 10 only.
That is why I stick to using Windows 7 SP1 for playing all my PC Games. No BS Windows build versions like fuxxing Windows 10 has. I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I’ve seen Windows 10 build versions packed into Windows Updates that have completely fuxxed up someone’s system or have stopped certain programs, applications, and even games from running.
And don’t even get me started on how Microshit tried to sneak in a Windows Update that included an early preview build of Windows 10 before the OS’s final retail release, as a desperate and pathetic dick move by MS to force people to update to their new POS Windows 10 from people who were still using Windows 7, 8.1.

@ PlayerOmega, When I spoke about my disdain for Windows 10 and why I prefer using Windows 7 SP1, it’s for the sole reason as I stated earlier about the unnecessary build versions that MS keeps putting out for Windows 10. Why the Fuxx does MS have to release so many different build versions for Windows 10, what, they couldn’t keep it simple by rolling out a service pack that addresses and fixes or patches any prior issues that may have been present in previous build versions ?
I’ve seen your comment suggesting to someone that if they wished to play Gears 5 they should download Microsoft’s Media Creation Tool, proceed with a soft Install of Win 10, and update to the 1903 build. Sure the person you suggested that to can do it that way, but maybe you weren’t aware that there is an even easier way of installing the 1903 build version, and that is by going to Microsoft’s Update Catalog.

I hope you weren’t mistakenly assuming that I don’t know how to maintain my computer or know much about computers, I was referring in my post to other people whom I have seen issues arise with these ridiculous build versions for Win 10 that MS keeps releasing, and I was the person that people would always come to when one of these builds messed something up on their systems and they asked me to fix it for them. So yeah, Fuxx Win 10!
First: Windows 10 is the final main version of Windows that Microsoft has stated they will be releasing. So they will be releasing updates for Windows 10 instead of releasing Windows 11, Windows 12, Windows 13.
Secondly: Using the Microsoft’s Media Creation Tool to download a new copy saves time because it downloads the majority of the current updates in the new version. Forcing Windows 10 to update to 1903 through Microsoft’s Update Catalog will still leave tons of current updates to be downloaded and installed which will take more time. It should also fix any problems with Windows Update. I stated that.

Use the media creation tool under Create Windows 10 installation media to download an updated version of Windows 10. Run it and the install when downloaded in Windows 10. Then do a soft install of Windows 10, basically tell it to keep your files and programs during the install process. Windows Update is known to have issues with updating to 1903 and using the the media creation tool to download a new copy will save time. The new copy will have most of the current updates already.

Since someone missed it:
1. Using the media creation tool to download a current version of Windows 10 saves time since there will be fewer updates to download after doing a soft install.
2. The downloaded current version of Windows 10 can be used offline.
3. Doing a soft install of Windows 10 will repair any problems with Windows Update.
4. The media creation tool creates an .iso file of Windows 10 for offline use.
5. The media creation tool has the option to make a usb thumb drive into a bootable copy of Windows 10 which is good for installing on other computers.
6. The usb thumb drive with a bootable copy of Windows 10 can also be used during recovery if Windows 10 becomes corrupted and will not boot.

OK in short, Create a Microsoft account, download and install Xbox beta, Go to the search bar on Windows near the start button and type in “Developer” and then click on “Developer settings” there you can change to Developer mode, install the game LAST then play from the start menu shortcut.

@ PlayerOmega, also the reason why I mentioned going to the online Microsoft Update Catalog to get an offline installation of the 1903 build version of Win 10 was because if, like yourself has mentioned, sometimes Windows Updates can go sideways and fail.
Having a way to install what you need with an offline setup package that you can run and execute manually is an easier solution, rather than the one you had suggested with using the Media Creation Tool.
I have been working with different types of OS installations and setup environments since the days of Windows 3.1, and have a wide array of knowledge with Windows Operating Systems straight up to Windows 10. I’m also experienced with using various Linux versions like Redhat and Kali for security testing purposes, and have also at one time worked with the long defunct, multi-platform network OS known as Novell (defunct November 2014).
I’ve even built, configured, upgraded and maintained a lot of different brand types of Desktop and Laptop PCs ranging from Dell, Lenovo, HP, Compaq, and ASUS to name a few.
The media creation tool allows a user to download a full current version of Windows 10 to be used offline. The media creation tool also has the option to burn to a thumb drive so it can be used on other computers. It is not just the updates, it is a complete current version of Windows 10. The thumb drive option is also good for use in recovery if Windows 10 becomes corrupted.
I could go into great detail about the systems I have worked on for private and professional use along with my various degrees in computer science but I will not bother since it is obvious you really have no idea what you are talking about when it comes to the media creation tool. For those of you who have gone ahead and updated to the latest version build of Win 10, 1903 (also known as KB4515384 from the Microsoft Update Catalog as the May 2019 Update), you may or may not experience some of the following issues:
Microsoft is not currently aware of any issues with this update. But according to several complaints from users seen on Reddit, Installing cumulative update KB4515384 breaks the Start menu and Windows Search in the taskbar.
Also some other users report Windows 10 cumulative update KB4515384 fails to install. This appears to be an isolated case, but the error that users experiencing this come across is 0xe0000100.
Certain users reporting cumulative update KB4515384 breaks down audio or reduces the quality when playing games.

@ alexandre, when you ran the installer and specified a path to the installation directory,, did you notice a backslash “\” at the end of the directory path folder?
The reason you are getting that error about the IsDone.dll is because the installer is trying to look for the path at the end of the installation folder that you set or that was automatically set by default by the installer itself.
Whatever the case was, and if you change the installation path and directory manually yourself, you should make sure that there is no backslash at the end of the path, because it will confuse the installer and it will attempt to install to a non existing folder after the “\” which hasn’t been created.
Here’s is an example of the right and wrong way to that the installation and directory path should look like:
The Right way: C:\Gears 5 Ultimate Edition
(There is no backslash after the name of this installation path and directory) The game will install correctly to the drive path and installation directory specified here.
The Wrong way: C:\Gears 5 Ultimate Edition\
(There is a backslash “\” at the end of the drive path and installation directory, and if the backslash is left there it will create the Isdone.dll error causing the installation to fail because there is no existing folder that comes after the “\” backslash.

Seems to me like anytime that Microsoft decides to release a new version build for Windows 10, they tend to completely mess something else up with the update that actually creates more problems than it fixes.
I still shudder at the thought of Microsoft ever having released Windows Millennium Edition, or as I like to call it, the Mistake Edition. Even Bill Gates hung his head in shame and openly admitted to the public that the dumpster fire of an OS should never have been released for retail.
what to do? gears 5 does not appear at start menu after installing
@ flyer1, two things you can do for a work around if you can’t see gears 5 in your Windows Start Menu:
1) Go to the drive and installation folder where Gears 5 Ultimate Edition was installed to. Open it, and then look for anything with the extension .exe from the main game folder that has the name Gears in it. That will most likely be the game executable to run the game. If you don’t see it in the main game directory, then look to see if there is a folder named: Binaries \ Win64.
Open that Binaries folder, then the Win64 folder, and inside of the Win64 folder you should find an .exe file that should show the game executable as being either Gears 5-Win64-Shipping or just Gears 5.exe (if you found the game executable in the main game directory).
You will need to create a shortcut from that game executable and move it to your Windows desktop (right-click on the game executable and choose Create Shortcut). You will now have a shortcut for the game where you can launch it directly from the Windows Desktop.

2) You can also manually create a folder in the Windows Start Menu named Gears 5. Hold down your Windows Key and press R key together at the same time, and this will open the Windows Run command. Inside of the Windows Run Command, type the following: %programdata% and press the Enter button. This will take you to your computer’s Program Data folder. Look for a folder named Start Menu and open that folder. Create a New Folder named Gears 5 inside of it. From the open folder take your mouse cursor and click on the Restore Down button at the top middle of the open Window, and this will put the Window you are viewing into a boxed view.
Go to the Gears 5 shortcut that you had created earlier and placed on your Windows desktop, right-click on it and choose Copy. Now, go back to the Window you put into a boxed view (the one where you created the Gears 5 folder in the Start Menu folder). Paste the shortcut that you copied from your Windows Desktop for Gears 5 into the Gears 5 folder you had created earlier.
Now, when click on the Windows Start icon or go to the Windows Start menu from the Windows Desktop, you will see that Gears 5 folder that you had created there. Open that folder and the executable to start the game will be there that you can click on to start the game. You can also do that from your Windows Desktop too, since you created and placed a shortcut there for it as well.

Case in point like I had said before, take a good look at the failed Windows ME (Millennium Edition). WTF happened there with that Windows OS? Even Bill Gates himself acknowledged that it should have never been released to Retail.
PlayerOmega suggested using the Windows Media Creation Tool as an easy method to obtain and update Win 10 to the latest build release of 1903 in order to play Gears 5, which is fine and all, but what he again failed to see were the reported issues that some people here addressed with audio (no sound), as well as what I addressed myself with game breaking issues relating to the 1903 build.
Also, what both PlayerOmega and End Gamer may not be aware of is that there is no real need for anyone to update to the 1903 build now that the CODEX release of Gears 5 is out that supports both Windows 7, and Windows 10 x64.

For anyone who can’t play this game, follow these easy steps.
1. Update windows 10 to build 1903
2. Load the xboxlive program to install (if not updating windows before unable to install)
3. Then log in to the Xbox program using login microsoft.
4. After completing the game installation And once the installation is complete, you can access the game from the Start menu> Gear 5.
