Director of Hazelight Studios Josef Fares was on hand to rapidly explain several features of his team’s upcoming co-op adventure, which stars two aspiring writers who inadvertently wind up inside the same simulation of one of their stories. Discovering their stories are about to be stolen by a sinister tech company, they need to figure out how to escape “through the very worlds that they created.”
With each level jumping between a sci-fi world and a fantasy world, Split Fiction also promises unique mechanics for every level, including dragons that emerge as hatchlings before growing into “full-ass dragons” that can “fly around and kick ass.”
Fares confirmed that, as with previous Hazelight games, you will only need to buy one copy of the game to enjoy it co-op with a friend. The Friend’s Pass feature is actually being pushed further, as Split Fiction will see crossplay options enabled for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC via Steam.
“That’s what Hazelight is about,” explained Fares. “No loot boxes, no microtransactions, and no bulls–t. You just get the game.”
Split Fiction is being published by EA under its EA Originals label, just like It Takes Two and A Way Out before it. It’s coming to PC and consoles on March 6, 2025.
